2017 Duke 200 Spotted Up Close Before Launch

The upcoming 2017 Duke 200 is being awaited with a longing eye by enthusiasts all over the country.

The 2017 KTM Duke 200 features a new frame design and styling

The KTM brand in Asia enjoys a unique position and reputation among the Asian public, half of which perceives them as loud, brash and a menace and the other half thinks that the partnership between the Austrian brand and our desi Bajaj is a God-sent for the dried-up monotonous low-tech biking community which is just starting to mature.

The KTM Duke series of bikes is specially reveled by many primarily due to their ultra-naked and uber-European looks as well as its top-notch handling characteristics, making it the star on the streets, on the track as well as on the sales charts. Therefore, after the success of the entry-level Duke 200 and Duke 390 bikes, KTM is all set to begin a new sortie in the segment with the next generation Duke cousins.

KTM Asia recently announced the launch date of the new 2017 Duke range as 23rd February 2017. Along with the 2017 390cc Duke, the smaller yuppie in the family called the new 2017 Duke 200 will also be launched on the aforementioned date. But for those who do not wish to wait to get a glimpse of the machine, new fresh spy shots of the 2017 Duke 200 naked roadster in full camouflage drapery have arrived.

The bike seen here features a black frame with an orange sub-frame, the instrument cluster from the current generation model, latest MRF Revz FC-1 and C-1 tyres, absence of ABS rings on the brakes and the handlebar sans the bar-end weights. The 2017 bike is also set to brandish a new re-designed seat, tank-mounted ignition key, sporty grab-rails which are integrated into the rear panel and the 2017 Duke 390 style headlamps though the 200cc variant will feature a halogen headlamp with LED DRLs instead of full LEDs.

Mechanically the entry-level KTM will reportedly get the same engine from the current model, but with updated specifications which make it BS-IV compatible. It would still produce 25 PS of power and 19.2 Nm of torque but the refinement levels are expected to be better than the current generation Duke 200. Transmission of power is done via a 6-speed manual gearbox sans a slipper clutch (the cheaper Dominar 400 gets it). The new 2017 Duke 200 is expected to command a bit of a premium over the current bike.
