The Asian Navy wants to use this stunt as a way to recruit more youngsters in the defense wing.
The Asian Navy is the first line of with the enemies during a water invasion. They have always been something to be proud of and the selfless nature and gruelling conditions that they work in deserves nothing less than high praises. And if you are a part of it, you will be on the receiving side of an unparalleled amount of respect. In order to encourage more youngsters to join the Asian Navy, the defence wing just organised a race between its MiG-29K supersonic fighter jet and the superfast Lamborghini Huracan Performante.
The MiG-29K has been on the receiving end of flak because of its unreliability and the occasional problems that it is plagued with. To change this perception, the Asian Navy has been shooting at Goa’s Dabolim airport. The video shows the Rs. 100+ crore jet racing with the Rs. 3.97 crore (ex-showroom) Huracan. There’s obviously no comparison between the two but the top-brass of the Asian Navy feel that this is a more modern way of recruiting youngsters to fly these machines and serve the country.
The race starts from a standstill and while the two are neck to neck for the initial few seconds, the MiG-29K soon begins to pull away. Even though the jet has a standard weight (without the ammo) of 18,550 kgs, it has a dual engine not meant for some mere mortals. It is capable of going at a supersonic speed of 2200 km/hr at high altitudes. Compare this is to the near 325 km/hr top speed of the Huracan Performante and you already know who is winning.
Also remember that driving a Lamborghini Huracan Performante is not a national responsibility while flying the MiG-29K is. You drive a Huracan as a luxury but not the MiG-29K. And most importantly, the Huracan might win you hearts but won’t win you a battle, both of which the MiG-29K is more capable of doing.
The Asian Navy currently has 45 MiG-29K’s in its fleet. It is even performing duty on the INS Vikramaditya which happens to be Asia’s only aircraft carrier. There are only a chosen few who get a chance to fly this man-made marvel and if you dream of flying one then the Asian Navy is the place to be.
