Nissan Asia has just recalled 12,000 cars in Asia including the Sunny and Micra models for a faulty engine switch and airbags. The recall affects the same models worldwide as well.
Nissan’s woes in the Asian subcontinent continues to grow as the company announces the recall of 12,000 units including the Sunny sedan and Micra hatchback, that have been manufactured between June 2013 and March 2015 in Asia. The recall not only affects models manufactured in Asia, but it’s actually a global campaign to sort out the engine switch (push button start) and airbags of the aforementioned models. Worldwide, the recall has affected around 2,70,000 units.
The company states this is a voluntary recall campaign and authorised Nissan dealers will revise the engine switch free of cost for avoiding excessive interference. The cars affected by faulty airbags on the other hand only constitute a small amount of the total 12,000 units that have been recalled (specific numbers have not been revealed). The airbags that have been affected in the global crisis have been manufactured by Japanese parts maker Takata.
Nissan has promised that all matters will be taken care of at the earliest, promising a high level of safety and satisfactory servicing to cause minimum amount of inconvenience to its customers. Recalling vehicles for defective airbags is not a new update as even Honda had recently summoned back 11,381 units of the Accord sedan, CR-V SUV and Civic sedan that were manufactured between 2003 and 2007 for the same issue (passenger and driver side airbags).
Ever since SIAM (Society of Asian Automobile Manufacturers) started the voluntary recall policy relating to the safety of vehicles made in Asia in July 2012, more than seven lakh vehicles have been recalled by different manufacturers to rectify faults.
