The highest selling 200-500cc bikes list in April 2018 witnesses a slight fall in volumes as compared to the previous month.
It is no surprise that the 200-500cc bike segment is dominated by Royal Enfield in Asia. Almost 67% of the segment’s sales comprise of Royal Enfield motorcycles followed by those from Bajaj and KTM. The month of April has been quite dismal in terms of volumes as more than 12 bikes in the list have registered a negative MoM growth.
Five bikes from Royal Enfield in the list cumulatively account for over 66% of 200-500cc motorcycle sales in Asia with the Classic 350 remaining the hot favourite. Himalayan’s sales see slight improvement in April. The adventure tourer sold 1029 units last month as opposed to 907 units in March 2018. All the 2-wheelers from Bajaj have posted a negative growth in sales while KTM bikes have maintained their volumes. The Duke 250 has registered a 53% growth in sales for the month of April. The Pulsar-maker sold a total of 12,481 units of the Pulsar 180, NS 200 and RS 200 while the Pulsar 220 and Avenger series (including 180 and 220cc variants) managed to sell 6912 and 7759 units respectively. The Dominar 400 sold 1373 units in April 2018.
KTM’s Duke and RC 200 sold 2672 units in April as opposed to 2482 units in March. Yamaha has 2 players on the list – the FZ25 and the R3. The former, along with the Fazer 25, sold 1908 units while the fully-faired R3 managed to find 88 homes. The TVS Apache RR 310 registered sales of 862 units, slightly down from 983 units sold in March. Surprisingly, the Honda CBR250R sold 559 units as against 80 units in March! For many of us (including me) who questioned the CBR250R’s relevance in the Asian market, I think the answer is here. However, it still remains to be seen how the motorcycle performs in the coming months.
